The Don Tomás brand is more than 40 years old and has survived the ups and downs of the cigar market, a change in owners (it went from UST to General Cigar) and, now, a change in blends. General Cigar, led by president and chief operating officer Angel Daniel Núñez, reworked the Don Tomás blend for a relaunch in late 2005. Dubbing it Clásico, the company’s idea is to get back to the brand’s roots as a hearty, no-nonsense cigar for a fair price. The Don Tomás tends to be toasty, woody and slightly sweet.
